1900 - 1910

1900:

He obtains a degree in Medicine. Decides to study Psychopathology.

The 10th of December is appointed Assistant at the Burghölzli Neuropsychiatric Hospital under the direction of Dr. Eugenio Bleuler.


1902:

He studies theoretical Psychopathology under the tutorship of Pierre Janet at the French Hospital of La Salpetriêre (Paris).
Experiments with the association test in Burghölzli.
First works:"On the Psychology and Pathology of the so-called phenomena of the occult".
"A case of hysterical lethargy in a prisoner under detention".


1903:

He marries Emma Rauschenbach. ( 1922-1955 ). They had five children: Agatha, Gretta, Franz, Mariana (premature death) and Helena.

He publishes: " On simulated insanity ".


1904:

He publishes: "A medical opinion in a case of simulated insanity"."Associations with normal subjects". His first daughter Agata is born.


1905:

He is promoted at the Burghölzli Hospital and is appointed Professor at the University of Zürich.

He publishes: "Cryptomnesia"."On the psychological diagnosis of the facts"."Response time in the association experiments","Experimental observations in memory","Psychoanalysis and experiments of association".


l906:

Her second daughter Grette is born. He had begun to treat Sabina Spieilrein and later Antonia (Tony) Wolff.

He publishes: "A third and final opinion in two contradictory diagnoses","Association, dreams and hysterical symbols","The importance of association experiments for Psychopathology","The psychology of dementia praecox","Freud's theory on Hysteria: a response to Schaffenburg", where he defends Freud's position without even knowing him personally.


1907:

February: Frist meeting with Freud in Viena."On the disorders of reproduction in experiments of association","The psychophysical relations in the associative experiment",(in collaboration with F. Peterson):"Psychophysical research with the galvanometer and pneumograph in normal and insane individuals".

1908:

He participates in the First International Psychoanalytical Congress in Vienna.
He publishes (in collaboration with C. Ricklin):'Further research on the galvanic phenomena and respiration in sane and insane individuals","The contents of Psychosis","Freudian theory of hysteria".


1909:

He begins his studies on Mythology. His private practice increases and he leaves his position at Burghölzli.
He travels to the U.S.A. with S. Freud and Z. Ferenczy. He receives and Honorary Degree of Dr. In Psychopedagogy and gives conferences on the Tests of word association.
He analyzes Freud for the first and only time.
He publishes:"The importance of the father in the destiny of the individual","Analysis of dreams".


1910:

He participates inn the Second Congress of Psychoanalysis in Nuremberg, being appointed Permanent President.

He publishes: "The method of association","A contribution to the Psychology of rumor","On the critics to Psychoanalysis","Psychic conflicts in a child".
