1931 - 1945

1931:

He publishes: "Basic postulates in Analytical Psychology","The archaic man","The objectives of Psychotherapy".


1932:

He is awarded a literary prize in the city of Zürich.

He publishes: "Psychotherapies for the clergy","Sigmund Freud in his historical position", "Ulyses","Picasso".


1933:

He starts as a Professor in the Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule. He is appointed President of the Society of Eranos, in Ascona, Switzerland. There Jung presents the following works:"A study in the process of individuation","The real and surrealist","The sense of Psychology in modern man","Brother Klaus".

He is appointed an instructor at the Superior Federal Technical School

1934:

He accepts the Presidency of the International Medical Society of Psychotherapy in his character of swiss citizen, replacing Dr. Kretshmer and to preserve the international spirit and the bases of Deep Psychology, in the presence of nazi pressures to overtake it as an affiliate of the German Society of Psychology, excluding all works written by authors of hebrew origin.

He resignes shortly afterwards when an antisemitic writing was published without his knowledge.Second meeting in Eranos. There Jung presents the following works:"Archetypes and collective unconscious",Ä revision to the theory of complexes","The soul and the death","The present state of Psychotherapy","A reply to Dr. Bally,"The practical use of the analysis of dreams","The development of personality".



He beguins a systematic research of Alchemy.

1935:

Third meeting of the Eranos Group.

He publishes:"Symbols of dreams in the individuation process", (later revised with the name of "Individual symbolism of dreams in relation to Alchemy)","Psychological comments to the tibetan book of the dead","Principles of Practical Psychotherapy", "What is Psychotherapy?","Analytical Psychology: theory and practice".


1936:

He receives an honorific doctorate at Harvard University.

Fourth meeting of the Eranos Group. There he presents:"Religious ideas and Alchemy",(published as the third part of "Psychology and Alchemy","The concept of collective unconscious". With respecto to archetypes, with a special reference to the concept of "Anima","Yoga and the West","Wotan", this last one warning about the danger of a revival of the obscure forces of the Shadow of the german people incarnated in nazism.

 


1937:

Fifth meeting of Eranos. Jung presents:"The vision of Zosimo", he dictates several seminars and conferences in the U.S.A., " Psychological factors of human conduct","The realities of psychotherapeutic practice".


1938:

He receives the Doctorate Honoris Causa from the University of Oxford and becomes a member of the Royal Society of Medicine of Great Britain.

He travels to India by invitation of the British Government for the celebration of the 25th aniversary of the creation of the University of Calcutta.

Sixth meeting of Eranos.

He is appointed Honorary Member of the English Royal Society of Medicine.

He publishes: "Psychological aspects of the archetypal mother","Psychology and religion".


1939:

Second world War

Seventh meeting of Eranos. He organizes a seminar on spiritual exercises of San Ignacio de Loyola.

 

Death of Sigmund Freud.

He publishes:"Conscious, unconscious and individuation","What can India teach us?","warning to the Suzuki's Introduction to Zen Buddhism ","In memory to Sigmund Freud", (in spite of nazi pressures),"Richard Wilheim: In Memoriam.


1940:

Eighth meeting of the Erano group, Jung presents:"A psychological approximation to the concept of Trinity","The Psychology of the archetypal child" (El Puer Aeternus)


1941:

Ninth meeting of the Eranus group. Jung presents:"Symbols of transformation in the mass","The psychological aspects of the Koran","Paracelsus, the doctor".


1942:

He resigns to his post of Professor at the Eidgenossische Technisch Hochschule (1933-1942). Tenth meeting of Eranos.

He publishes: "The mercurial spirit","Paracelsus and the spiritual phenomenon".


1943:

He is appointed honorary member of the Swiss Academy of Sciences. Eleventh meeting of the Eranos group. The following works are read:"The Psychology of Oriental Meditation","Psychotherapy and Philosophy of life",""The talented child".


1944:

He occupies the chair of Medical Psychology, founded by him at the University of Basel. His poor health forces him to resign the following year. He fractures a foot and suffers a cardiac arrest. He has a new series of visions and hypnagogic images. Twelfth meeting of Eranos. Jung is still absent due to his illness. His following works are read:"The sacred man of India: Introduction to Henreich Zimmer in his work titled: Der Weg zum Selbst", Jung will be the editor of this author's posthumous work."Psychology and Alchemy", based on two works read at the Eranos meeting of 1935 and 1936.


1945:

He receives a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the University of Geneva (Switzerland) on occasion of his 60th birthday.
Thirteenth meeting of Eranos. Jung presents:"The phenomenology of spirits in fairy tales","On the nature of dreams","After the catastrophe","The philosophical tree","Medicine and Psychotherapy","Psychology today".
